Beware of the Spirit of Haughtiness and Pride

By Pastor Dennis Williams

Beware of the spirit of Haughtiness and Pride

Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall…” Proverbs 16:18

Lucifer became so filled with pride and said: “I will be like the most High” in Isaiah 14:14. Lucifer fell from one of the most beautiful of the Lord’s angels to the lowest pit of Hell.

The spirit of haughtiness and pride would like to keep us from becoming the new creations in Christ that the Lord intended us to be. We must submit ourselves to the Lord in order for Him to be able to make us into the person that He intended us to be.

Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ can not do things our way in a proud, self-made, person of the world sort of way. Once that we receive the Lord as our Saviour we must submit ourselves to Him everyday. When we concentrate on “I” then that would leave us depending on ourselves rather than depending on the Lord.

We should not be deceived by the appearance of success of a person. In many cases, behind this outer impression there may be a history of drugs, alcohol, broken relationships, health problems and other maladies. This is all because there is not true success apart from being in the will of God.

A Christian must know that our own righteousness is as filthy rags according to the Word of God. Additionally we must know that we can do nothing unless we are strengthened and anointed by the Spirit of the Living God. Jesus said in the Word of God that He was meek and lowly of heart. Those words did not mean that He was weak. Jesus knew how to drive the moneychangers out of the temple and He never lost in any of His discussions with the Pharisees.

We must say like Jesus said in John 5:30: that “I can of myself do nothing.. I seek not my own will but the will of the Father that sent me”.

Bible Verse of the Day

But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
