Christians must seek to build faith by reading the Word of God. A solid understanding of the Word of God is needed when attempting to function in the ministry of healing the sick, casting out demons and when moving in the speaking authority over the powers of darkness.
For example, Jesus gave us authority to cast out demons in His name. So when we speak in the authority of the Lord, we should not ask Jesus to cast the demon out. We should speak the Word of God and say, “In the name of Jesus, I command you to come out”. The Bible does not tell us to ask the Lord to cast out a demon. He told us to cast them out.
For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. Mark 13:34
Authority Explained
When you speak the Word of God in authority, we do not, ask or beg, we command. We are not to beg demons or ask them to do anything; we are to command in the name of Jesus.
Luke 9:1, “Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils…”
Luke 10:17, “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.”
Matthew 8:8-9, 13: The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 13Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! It will be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that very hour.
Jesus walked the earth as a man and spoke with absolute authority as an example to us of the authority we have in His name.
The demons moved because of His authority: Mark 1:27, “And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.”
The demons left because Jesus spoke the Word: Matthew 8:16, “When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word…”
Sicknesses were healed by Jesus’ Word: Luke 7:7, “Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.” Also John 5:8, “Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.”
Jesus’ Authority is supreme over all: Matthew 28:18, “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”
